The Power Of The Blood Of The Lamb

Bible and Vine

"Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission."

We can see by this portion of Scripture that the shedding of blood in the Old Testament (first teastament) was very significant in the cleansing and purifying of the items within the tabernacle, and the purging of the sin of the people.

Hebrews 10:1-4; "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."

The specific instructions given by God to Moses (The Law) contained the manner in which to purge sin by the shedding of blood. This was a "shadow" or a representation of the sacrifice that God through Jesus Christ would make to completely cover all sin, because the blood of bulls and goats sacrificed yearly were not able to keep anyone from sin

Matthew 26:28; "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

Here Jesus, speaking to His disciples at the passover meal, uses wine to illustrate and to represent the blood that He would shed on the cross at Calvary, although the disciples would not fully understand the meaning until after the resurrection.

John 1: 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The Passover Lamb was to be taken from the flock. It had to be a yearling, without spot and without blemish. This symbolizes perfection. Only a perfect sacrifice could remove sin. So then when John the Baptist saw Jesus, he saw the image of perfection in Jesus, or else he wouldn't have been able to say what he said.
