The POWER to overcome fear

bible and vine

2 Timothy 1: 7; For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear does not come from God. A lack of the power that comes from God, and a lack of love will eventually produce fear. Much of what is diagnosed as "mental illness" has its root in fear. Fear is also a by-product of laziness, as we will see in the next verses.

Proverbs 22:13; "The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets."
Proverbs 26:13; "The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets."

Slothful is another word for lazy. It is translated from the Hebrew word "atsal (aw-tsal) to be slack or idle". To have this sort of unrational fear is a direct result of laziness. So in order to avoid going out, for fear of a lion, a lazy person will remain indoors, perhaps to sleep, or idly pass the time away. We all know that there really is a lion in the streets. Scripture says that your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8. My faith though is built on my trust in the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the one that is King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Philippians 4:6; Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."

The word careful comes from the greek word "merimna (mer-im-nah) to be anxious about, to take thought of." Anxiety is another form of fear that comes from uncertainty, or a lack of faith , or unbelief. Why would God ask us to make our requests known to Him by prayer and supplication with an attitude of gratitude, if He were not willing to meet our needs? Or don't you know that this type of fear can bring about all forms of physical ailments? Such as stress, depression, ulcers, migraine headaches, etc. etc. etc. As if all of our worrying actually produces anything good.

Psalm 34:1-4; "I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears."

When you seek the Lord, in a Spirit of praise and adoration, at all times, regardless of your circumstances, there is no room for fear! The bible says that the Lord inhabits the praises of His people Psalm 22:3. So if this is true, then how can fear reside where the Lord is? It is not possible for a person walking in the Spirit, to fulfill the desires of the flesh. Don't take my word for it...read it in Galatians 5:16.

Romans 8:37-39; "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We are joined to the love of God, and this makes us MORE than conquerors! We can conquer our fears, and live in victory. The devil uses fear to control people, and to make people feel less than what they actually are. God is a spirit, and if we are made in God's likeness, then we are spirit beings also. Our flesh is just a shell to house the spirit. A seed has a hard covering to protect what is inside. The life of the seed is inside the shell! Fear is not a product of the spirit...it is a product of the flesh. We overcome the flesh through the spirit of God that our spirit becomes joined to when we accept Christ into our lives!

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psalm 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident

Psalm 56:4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Psalm 64:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Proverbs 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell
